Emerald Tree Skink Lineage & Studbook

I keep a small closed group and label every animal by generation. My five founders sit at the top of the tree; I call them the P, or founder, generation. Their captive-bred young are F1. The generation after that is F2, and so on. I only ever pair animals whose history I know, so I can always tell you who a baby's parents are and when it hatched.

Why I bother A studbook keeps the line healthy. It stops me accidentally pairing close relatives, and it means every buyer gets honest parentage. It's the same reason I breed my own instead of selling wild-caught animals.

Family tree

My breeding pair is Naga (female) and Loki (male), and Naga is gravid right now, so an F1 clutch is on the way. Ron turned out to be a second male, and Raya, a three-year-old female, has since joined him in the terrarium. That makes them my second pair, so Clutch B is the plan. Here's the line.

A third line arrived with Raya. Pip hatched at the beginning of August 2026 and came home with her, and Pip's parents are unrelated to any animal I already had. That makes Pip a founder in their own right, and for a small closed group like mine that is genuinely valuable, because unrelated blood is the thing a studbook runs short of first. Pip is still tiny, so the plan is to grow them on and move them in with Naga and Loki once they are big enough to hold their own.

An egg came along at the same time. Whether it is viable I have no idea, and I would rather say so plainly than post a hatch date I cannot stand behind. If it hatches, it goes on this page with everything else.

Ages shown are as of August 2026. The hatch month is the fixed fact, the age beside it is worked out from that.

I leave babies marked unsexed until they're old enough to call. Sexing this species reliably is genuinely hard; I even had Ron pegged as a female until he proved otherwise, which is exactly why I'm working on sexing from shed skin. The codes: P is my founder stock, F1 their first captive-bred generation, F2 the one after that.

How this ties into a baby you buy

When a baby is available, its studbook ID goes home with it, so you know exactly which clutch it came from and who its parents are. If you ever decide to breed it yourself, that record lets both of us steer clear of pairing related animals. Babies that are reserved or sold stay on the tree for the history; I just change their status.
